Director of College Counseling | English
Phone: Ext. 1217

Matt Patterson became college counselor at Bishop Seabury in 2004, having previously served as a college counselor and English teacher at St. Anselm’s Abbey School in Washington, DC.  He entered college counseling by accident, having transitioned into it while teaching English.  “I found that it was a particularly rewarding way of working with students,” Patterson says.  Over two decades of experience have taught him the ins and outs of the profession, and he is known for helping each student at Seabury find the right college fit (and secure financial aid/scholarships), whether they are looking at regional college choices or searching coast to coast.  “Since Seabury is a college-preparatory school, what I do is essential to our mission,” Patterson notes.  Teaching junior English at Seabury enables him to get to know his students better at a key point in the college-planning process.  Patterson and his wife, Amy Stuber, have had two Seabury students, Edie Patterson ‘23 (now at Columbia University) and Ben Patterson ‘26.  Outside of school, Patterson enjoys walking through the Old West Lawrence neighborhood, birdwatching at the Haskell-Baker wetlands, reading, and listening to music.
