Campus Clean-up! 9 am.
Dear Parents:
I hope you are having a lovely--albeit chilly--day. As you may expect, we will be delaying our annual Spring Campus Clean-up until the weather admits to being the product of the appropriate season. We will shoot for NEXT Saturday, the 11th.
Good luck to our Forensics Squad at State this weekend--and good luck to our Tennis team at Regionals on Monday (rescheduled due to ridiculous weather).
Congratulations to our Seabury Chamber Singers, Kit Rice, and Alex Rader for receiving 1-ratings across the board at last weekend's State Competition. Mrs. Lawrence and her students did an especially impressive job this year!
Mr. Weaver, Mrs. Lawrence, and our student thespians will present our all-school musical next week, Sound of Music at 7:30 pm. The students were very excited about doing this classic musical, and most of them were humming and singing the memorable tunes before they even started rehearsals. I hope that you can attend one of the evening performances next week to enjoy the show and the talents of our exceptional students.
We had to reschedule Renaissance Day from February due to a snow day, and it will now occur on Tuesday of next week. On this day, students will have the opportunity to take one-day courses that depart from our typical curriculum. The subjects stem from faculty interests and talents that are not typically on display, and the event is a good way to remind students about the longevity of learning. It is also a nice bonding experience between staff and students. Thanks to the faculty for putting in the extra effort to plan courses in this busy time of the year, and I hope students will get a lot out of the day.
Summer is nearly upon us (I will not make further caustic weather comments). We have an especially interesting variety of classes that students can take this summer. Our summer offerings are typically very low-key and a lot of fun. Please check out the Summer @ Seabury program and sign up soon: http://www.seaburyacademy.org/academics/summer_at_seabury.cfm.
Mr. Patterson will be sending information to parents early next week with instructions on how to fill out course requests for the 2013-2014 school year. This year, you will be able to submit course requests online through RenWeb. Please attend to this matter at your earliest convenience. During the week of May 13, Mr. Patterson will round up those current students in grades 6-11 who have not completed the course requests online and have them complete the process here at school. If you have questions, please contact Mr. Patterson.
Today is an important day, as we held our annual vote for Prefects. Our senior Prefects are elected by the entire student body and faculty, and these five students assume the mantel of ambassadors and student caretakers of the school--running morning meeting, leading announcements, helping organize school events, mentoring younger students, consulting with the Dean of Students and Head of School, and generally serving as leaders in the student community. Every year I emphasize that the senior class, as a whole, should be leaders of the school and each senior has the opportunity to support the school with his or her individual talents, but those who are chosen as Prefects are selected to play a more structure role. The following students were chosen and announced after school today: Kate Albrecht, Marcus Allen, Courtney Cooper, Alex Rader, and Thomas Westbrook. Congratulations to these students!
Have a good weekend.
Yours respectfully,
Dr. Schawang
