Friday Letter

September 23, 2011

Dear Parents,

After a long, fiercely hot summer, I think we are all grateful to enjoy some autumnal temperatures, though many students and adults (including the Headmaster) had to work through some seasonal lethargy at first.  I love this time of year, as fall brings its own interesting combination of excitement and contemplation.  Temperatures can vary wildly during the day, so I encourage you to talk to students about dressing in layers.  Please remember that, although students are allowed to wear light jackets in classrooms, such outerwear must be in solid academy colors (black, navy, hunter green, or white—not grey).  The same is true for sweatshirts and sweaters.

I am happy to see students so active and engaged right now.  The Back-to-School Dance was a great success last weekend, many students and parents came out for Mr. Nelson’s Nine Miles @ Night, and students are representing Seabury gloriously in athletics competition.  No doubt the students and the faculty can use some time to relax this weekend.

As always, I enjoyed seeing so many parents here for parent-teacher conferences, and I trust you had productive meetings with faculty.  We do not have conferences again until February, but feel free to contact teachers as needed whenever you have questions.  Many thanks to the BSAP Hospitality Committee parents who provided lunch and breakfast to our teachers at conferences this year.  This is always a very meaningful and thoughtful gesture, and the staff could not be more appreciative (or well fed!).

Have a beautiful and restful weekend.

Yours respectfully,

Dr. Schawang
