Friday Letter

Dear Parents:

Tonight and tomorrow night, we will present our upper-school acting showcase, A Night for Actors II.  Mr. Weaver and I have enjoyed working with our older performers, and they have committed a lot of time and talent to these two one-acts.  I hope you can attend and enjoy their work!  Break-a-leg to the cast!

The Auction last Saturday was a massive success in every way.  We had almost 300 guests from just about every moment in our school's history: founders, alumni, parents, trustees, and friends.  As always, it is too early to announce our final donation tally for the night, but the Fund-a-Need alone took in over $100,000.  That is a record!  We will publish final results as soon as we have them.

I can never thank sufficiently our auction team for all of their hard work on this event every year.  Our co-chairs Kay Almanza and Tree Hanna did an incredible job of running the show with the help of Jenn Godar and a team of committed parents.  We really depend upon parents (and in Kay's case, alum parents!) who are willing to step up and help with this event, and I hope we will have a strong committee again next year!

Congratulations to 6th grader Noah Luke who has qualified to move on to the State level of the Geography Bee in April!

Congratulations also to all of our basketball teams at the end of their season!  Their commitment is impressive and their hard work really paid off this season.  It was a pleasure to watch them in action.

Finally, next week is the Spring Fever Grudge Match.  Each year, we try to "channel" the anticipatory energy of students prior to spring break into a 5-day, post-lunch competition between students and staff members.  Most of the events change year-to-year and are the product of Mr. Nelson's twisted imagination.  In prior years, we have had trivia contests (pitting helpless students against Mr. Knudson), various athletic competitions involving eggs, and challenges to see who can create the most impressive busts of Mr. Patterson.  The week culminates in the legendary Battle of the Bands next Friday.  That event will occur at 2:15 pm, and parents are welcome to attend.

Have a good weekend!

Yours respectfully,

Dr. Schawang
