Friday Letter

March 1, 2019

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow night is the Auction.  I know we will have a great time--and all in the service of helping serve our students.  Check out the attached schedule.  Some of you may ask, "what is cocktail attire?"  You are our guests, so my answer is: whatever you want it to be!  See you then!

The Upper School performers did an excellent job last night.  You have one more night (tonight) to catch the work of student playwrights, actors, and director.  Break-a-leg!

Congratulations to our boys varsity basketball team for their win at Sub-State competition last night!  Please note that their final game has been moved up to 4:30 pm on Saturday.  Good luck to our athletes!

Good luck to our History Day competitors as they head off to HD Regionals on Saturday!

Our Power-lifting squad will have a "lift-a-thon" tomorrow.  This inter-squad meet will be an opportunity for you to come see our mighty students before they head off to State at the end of the month.

Ms. Barbour is off to Austin, TX this weekend to present at the South by Southwest EDU Conference and Festival, an internationally recognized convergence gathering for creative professionals.  Ms. Barbour is excited to share with other educators the novel writing unit she does with her 6th grade students.  The workshop is appropriately titled "30 Days of Insanity, or How to Write a Novel in 1 Month," and you can read more about her workshop and this festival here.  Good luck to Ms. Barbour!

Finally, next week is the Spring Fever Grudge Match.  Each year, we try to "channel" the anticipatory energy of students prior to spring break into a 5-day, post-lunch competition between students and staff members.  Most of the events change year-to-year and are the product of Mr. Nelson's twisted imagination.  In prior years, we have had trivia contests (pitting helpless students against Mr. Knudson), various athletic competitions, high stakes baby-food consumption (yuck!), and challenges to see who can create the most impressive busts of Mr. Patterson.  The week culminates in the legendary Battle of the Bands next Friday.  That event will occur at 2:15 pm, and parents are welcome to attend.

Yours respectfully,

Dr. Schawang
