1. Metella, postquam Caecilius et Quīntus et Fēlīx ad vēnātiōnem prōcessērunt, Melissam in vīllā quaerēbat.
2. Metella culīnam intrāvit, ubi Grumiō labōrāvit. Grumiō erat īrātus.
3. "cūr tū es īrātus, Grumiō? cūr ferōciter circumspectās?" rogāvit Metella.
4. "heri Melissa optimam cēnam pārāvit," respondit coquus. "hodiē ego cēnam pessimam parō, quod nūllus cibus adest."
5. "heri multus cibus erat in culīnā. Melissa omnem cibum coxit. Melissa est pulcherrima sed Melissa est pestis!".
6. Metella ē culīnā discessit et ad tablīnum festīnāvit, ubi Clēmēns labōrābat. Clēmēns quoque erat īrātus.
7. "quid fēcit Melissa?" rogāvit Metella.
8. "heri Melissa in tablīnō labōrābat," respondit Clēmēns. "hodiē ego in tablīnō labōrō. ecce! cērae et stilī absunt. nihil est in locō propriō."
9. Metella, postquam ē tablīnō discessit, hortum intrāvit. Metella melissam in hortō vīdit. ancilla lacrimābat.
10. "Melissa, cūr lacrimās?" rogāvit Metella.
11. "ego, tamen, tē nōn vituperō," inquit Metella. "ego tē laudō. ecce! tū crīnēs optimē compōnis. stolam meam optimē compōnis."
12. "lacrimō quod Grumiō et Clēmēns mē vituperant," respondit ancilla.
